Week 3

Another week has passed and Harper has officially outgrown most of her newborn clothes. She's either to long or I can't get it over her head.

In other news, I was chosen to be a Mommy Blogger for Nuby. They make a variety of baby products and I get to test them and review them on my blog. They sent us a box filled with goodies that I'll be trying out over the next few weeks.

This is Harper with her Tickle Toes Turtle from Nuby. Nat actually has the exact same turtle so I'm pretty sure it'll be a hit, although right now the laugh kinda startles her.

Nat received a Big Sister card in the mail from some of our friends. So she had to show off the sticker that came with it. Please excuse the mouth full of bread. You all know how much the girl likes her bread and olive oil.

Mulligan Keeps Watch

I walked into the living room the other day and found Mulligan checking on Harper. I guess since Bogey has pretty much claimed Natalie, Mulligan is staking claim on Harper :) He also loves to sleep in her room right in front of the crib.

Silly Big Sis

As I'm walking from the kitchen I here some giggling and the "Itsy Bitsy Spider" being sung over the monitor and wonder what the heck Nat (and probably Byron) is up too.

Look what I found :) She told me numerous times last night that she was sleeping with Harper because she "not like to sleep alone". I'll remind her of this when Harper is crawling in her bed at midnight sometime next year.

The novelty of giving Harper a sponge bath had already gotten old for Natalie but her belly button fell off this week which started a whole new ball game. When Nat saw me pull this out of the cabinet and fill it in the tub she could shimmy out of her clothes fast enough. And Harper? Well, she enjoyed every minute of the "pampering" her big sis showed her.

2 Week Checkup

Well at her 2-week checkup little miss weighed in at 9lbs even. Dr Lee was pleased that she was back up to her birth weight and then some. Must be all those 3 (almost 4) ounce bottles she is guzzling down. I mean seriously, I may start slipping some cereal in there.

See they do resemble each other some. Look at those noses and lips. Only time will tell if Harper's eyes and hair will change.

Showing off her little golf socks Stacy and Gabby got her.

And just for comparison, Harper is not as "big" as we all think. I think they may look alike more than we remember.

Harper - 2wk - 9lbs

Natalie - 2wk - 8.11lbs

Testing Pattern

I have a found a site where crafty mommies like myself can share ideas, fabric opinions, problems and patterns. I signed up to test a basic skirt pattern, perfect for the beginner that I am, and I am thrilled with how it turned out. I found the fabric at WalMart of all places and Nat just loves the skirt.

I did have some help from Sue because we didn't buy enough fabric so she helped me piece it together, but I did all the actual sewing :)

You can find the Moo Skirt pattern here.

1 Week Old

Our first week consisted of lots of sleeping and eating. She's already up to almost 3 oz (little piggy) and sleeping in about 4 hour stretches at night. Nat's been a big help and as understanding as a 3 year old can be. Thank goodness Nana was here to not only help around the house but to entertain Natalie. I'm pretty sure it rained everyday last week.

Oh and Nat did not perform at her recital on this afternoon. I don't know what got into her but she clammed up and started crying so we packed up and left.

A Day of Firsts

Natalie has officially started her first dance camp. Princess Dance Camp with about 20 or so other 3 & 4 year olds. We don't get to watch until Friday. Hopefully I'll get some video of her showing us what she's learned.

And the infamous first bath. Poor Harper, Natalie had to help and took her sweet time doing so but she put up with it. She's going to have the patience of a saint by the time she's 1.

Harper is Here!

Just a little photo bomb of Harper's first few days.

Nat's first impression. She loves her already and wants to help anytime she can. I think she was also relieved that they could both fit in Daddy's lap too. That's her favorite spot in the evenings before bedtime.

Harper got Natalie a Big Sis bracelet.

The ladies in the nursery fixed her hair for us :) And yes that's dark brown hair you see. Nat had the same color but not nearly as much. Harper's is a little thin on top but we joke that it's from where her head was stuck in my ribs for so long.

Getting ready to go home. The pants with the outfit wouldn't fit over her little butt. We've completely skipped newborn diapers too. They are to tight around her thighs.

One very PROUD big sister.

Nat likes to feed her too but doesn't understand why it takes so long. She thinks she should already be able to eat from the high chair.

Natalie also makes sure she accessorizes, hence the bow :)

A Date Night to Remember

Before our date night, that I will never forget, as a family of 3.

Before I post a photo bomb of Harper's first few days, let me talk about how she arrived. First, she did not wait, like a good little girl, to come on her scheduled date. Oh no, heaven forbid she wait, oh let's say less than 12 hours, to make her debut.

And her birth story goes like this...

Byron and I had decided to take advantage of my parents coming down early and planned a date night. Nothing crazy, just dinner and a movie. I had felt fine all day, maybe some contractions but nothing major or consistent. Off we head to Bonefish and I kid you not, as soon as we walked in the door I start cramping. At this point I don't even tell Byron but once we sit down they didn't stop. In fact they probably came every 5-7 minutes before I actually told Byron. I decided to go to the bathroom just to make sure it wasn't an upset tummy or gas, but no such luck. Meanwhile Byron is searching for an app to download to time the contractions. And yes they make a free one :)

So far, we've made it through appetizers, our main course with contractions being about 5 mintues or less apart but not really that strong. Therefore I go ahead and order my Key Lime Pie. It's my favorite and this was probably going to be the last thing I ate for the next few days. Well that was about the time our waitress decided to forget about us. So not only am I contracting (and freaking Byron out) I really want my pie!

As soon as she lays it on the table Byron ask for the check. I inhale the pie (it was so good by the way) and we haul butt to the van. I call the nurses hotline for advice. Remember I've never started labor on my own so I really just thought all this would just stop eventually. She told us to go home, keep timing the contractions and take a warm bath. I laughed at the warm bath. No way was I getting in a tub of hot water when it was 100+ outside. No thanks. So I tried to just rest on the bed and guzzle my water.

An hour came and went and by this time they hadn't stopped. They had actually gotten closer and stronger. As I'm stuffing clothes in a bag (yes I procrastinated that long), Byron gathers all the electronics and their chargers and we head off to the hospital.

We get there and leave our bags in the car. We are both still thinking this isn't going to happen tonight but boy were we WRONG. As I get into my room, they start hooking me up to all the machines, the nurse comes to check and I'm already 4cm! Holy Moly, here we go, this is for real. Now I would have been a lot more stoked had Harper not been breech. The last thing anyone wanted was for her to get down in the birth canal and me go into active labor so the on-call doctors were paged and we waited.

And waited, what seemed like an eternity, especially for the anesthesiologist. Little did I know he would get pulled over for a missing headlight. The contractions were almost never ending. They even gave a shot of something to slow them down at one point. The nurse asked if it helped and I think I smarted off something to the effect, "Well they are maybe 20 seconds apart now instead of 10." My opinion - no it did not help, where's my drugs?

Oh and let me give you a time reference. We signed our check-in papers at 8:40pm. I'd guess it was a good hour or so before the Doctors got there and Harper was born at 10:07pm. If this had been a normal delivery I would have been ecstatic.

Doctors arrive, I get my spinal and drop the F-bomb on the poor man. He struck a nerve putting it in and sent what felt like a gazillion volts of electricity through my right leg. I mean I said it before I could even think about filtering myself but I'm sure he's heard worse.

And that was it. Byron came in, Dr Sullivan started her magic and Harper was born at 10:07pm weighing a whopping 8lbs 10oz and 21.5 inches long.

The c-section itself was kinda like an out of body experience. I felt a ton of pressure and pulling. Byron and I passed the time by talking about Davis possibly playing for the Olympic team and how we should travel to New Orleans when they play the Wizards sometime.

And that's how little miss Harper Elizabeth entered this world. On her time and of course she's perfect :)

A Low Key 4th

Being less than 2 days from your induction date makes for a very uneventful 4th of July, which stinks, because it's my favorite holiday. But all that mattered is that Nat had fun, and all that took was a box of smoke bombs and some sparklers to set off with Grammie and Big Big.

Shake Your Booty

Come to find out Nat likes to shake her booty to a little Michael Jackson, which just happens to be one of Byron's favorite artist too. Lucky for Nat we have a Pandora station that plays nothing but MJ songs.

I'll admit this would have been a lot cuter in video but pictures are so much easier. You will also be seeing that leotard a lot more since Nat starts Princess Dance Camp in less than a week.
